Mr. An Bin grew up in Liaoning province in China's Northeast - a region of
Manchuria culture close-by Inner Mongolia and North Korea. After
his studies at the renowned CAFA (Chinese Academy of Fine Arts) Mr. An Bin
was sent on a six-months exchange program to the University of Ulster in
Belfast, followed by a working tour of Europe and America. Thus he
learned how to deal masterly with eastern as well as western
techniques of printmaking.
Education and Career
Mr. An Bin was born in 1962 in Dalian city of China. In 1984 he finished
his studies of Fine Art at the CAFA (Chinese Academy of Fine Arts) in
Beijing and became instructor at the printmaking department. Afterwards he
returned as a student and graduated with a master's degree in 1995.
Since October 1997, Mr. An Bin attended a tutorial at the printmaking
department at the University of Ulster in Belfast and completed his
experiences during a tour through Europe and the United States.
Back to China in
1998 Mr. An Bin became immediately an associate professor at CAFA and later
also deputy head of the Western art department at the Yixian College
of Calligraphy and Painting.
Technique and Style

Mr. An Bin works with woodblock prints and oil-based inks. His prints
are usually in reduced color palette or black and white and
medium-sized. Using the expressivity of the western style with a very
dynamic and pictorial carving Mr. An Bin feels bound to the eastern
tradition. His prints are depicting traditional Chinese themes and
maintains a balance between traditional and the contemporary. In China
and abroad Mr. An Bin is a well-established artist, printmaker and
watercolor painter. He has won many awards at national and provincial
exhibitions, including awards for excellence for his woodblock prints.

1985 - China National Literature Illustration Exhibition, Beijing, China.

1989 - Solo Exhibition in the Gallery of CAFA and a solo painting
Exhibition in the Shanghai Museum of Fine Arts. In the same year the
watercolor "Xiangxi Girl with Handkerchief on Head" won the Silver Award
of the 7th National Art Exhibition.

1990 - Exhibition in the Gallery of Europe Daily Time, Paris, France.

1993 - Solo Painting Exhibition at National Gallery of Beijing, China.

1994 - Solo Painting Exhibition at Guo Feng Tong Gallery of Wang Fu
Hotel, Beijing. In the same year desplayed at the 8th National Art
Exhibition, Beijing, China.

1998 - Solo Exhibition at Rush Art Gallery, New York, U.S.A.

1999 - The woodcut "Exclamation in the Drizzle" won the Bronze Award of
the 9th National Art Exhibition, Beijing, China.

2000 - Chinese Printmaking Review Exhibition of Twenty Century,
Chongqing, China.

2001 - Solo Exhibition at Fu You Gallery, Niigata, Japan. The silkscreen
"Bright Day" won the Copper Medal of the 7th National Etching,
Lithography and Silkscreen Exhibition.
