The portraits made by the young Chinese artist Luo Xiye are all of childlike looking women. But you can imagine the true feelings and thoughts they try to hide behind their nice faces. Luo Xiye has a very good sense for details and she exactly observes the world and the people around her.

Mrs Luo Xiye was born in 1983 in the Guangdong province. In the year 2002 she started her printmaking studies at the Guangzhou Fine Art Academy. In 2006 she graduated from this academy.
"I care about everyone's small world in this big world. So I like to talk to cats, their meows and their actions tell me what they need and if they are happy. Just like I know the cats' words, I like also people's words. But to communicate with people is too easy, we open our mouth and we know each other. So we humans learn to lie in order to hide our emotions and secrets. I want to know the people better, This special human being who must live together but wants to hide himself at the same time."
"So I mind their special word expressions, just like observing cats. 42 muscles in our face show our real emotions although we want to hide it by words. Those people who existed in the beginning of my life, later disappeared. I met them and then I lost them. Their smiles stopped at the same time but they are in my head and my life. So when I touch the paper, I can't control my pen."
The lithographs of Luo Xiye are all black and white. One can see the fine lines of the drawing. Luo Xiye is modeling her fragile portraits with a smooth hatching. Even the hair is elaborate. Her figures have a sweet childlike face with a small mouth and a big round head. Their looks seem to be sorrowful.
