Koichi Sakamoto, born 1932, hit like no one else the spirit of the crazy 1960s and 1970s from the viewpoint of a Japanese artist. His dreamy, surreal images are mesmerizing and seem to be from another planet. And when Koichi Sakamoto shows a rural Japanese farmhouse with pink sky, Western viewers may even think of "kitsch". Kitsch or not, his art prints are gorgeous and really unique. It is time for a big Koichi Sakamoto Renaissance.

Kamigata is the name of the region around Osaka in Japan. And kamigata-e are woodblock prints made in Osaka during the 19th century. The Osaka printmakers specialized in actor portraits and scenes from the popular kabuki theater. Compared to woodblock prints made in Edo city (Tokyo), the Osaka prints look a bit odd. And this is what makes them so charming for collectors. Another advantage: Kamigata-e are inexpensive.
