artelino would like to give more contemporary artists a chance to sell on our site. This page tries to answer your questions. If you are interested in selling on my web site, please read this page and contact me.

What kind of art objects do you take?

We are looking for Japanese and Chinese printmakers or Westerners who make art prints using Japanese or Chinese tools, material and methods. Most suited for our clientele are prints made in woodblock technique. But other techniques are acceptable too.

How do you sell?

We sell by online auctions. Usually we make a solo auction of 20 to 30 prints. The auction takes place from Sunday evening local time until the following Thursday evening. If the auction is successful there are good chances for a second one - maybe 6 months later. In addition we can offer your prints in our regular collector auctions.

Furthermore we write an article, a kind of biography about you. We publish it on our web site and it remains there as a permanent advertising for you.

How does such an online auction work?

Your prints are offered over a four day period with a starting price reserve. Bidding will raise the price in set increments until the close of the auction. The successful bidder will pay artelino the closing "hammered" price plus 20.00% buyers commission. artelino will pay the seller, or artist, the hammered price less 20 % sellers commission.

First we want to see images of your works and secondly a bit of resumé. On that basis we can make a decision if you fit into our style and our client's preferences and if we have a chance to sell your works.

OK, we both said yes. What do I have to do next?

1. Select your prints.
2. Make a description list that contains the following:
   • Title.
   • Date.
   • Technique.
   • Price - the so-called reserve. This is the miminum price below which your art work cannot be sold.
3. Include your resume and whatever material you have to present yourself best. Or send it by e-mail.
4. Pack well and ship to our address as specified on our general seller's page.
5. Do not forget to register on our site. We need your registration to handle your consignments in our back office programs.

You do. And please fix them in dollar.

How should I fix the reserve price?

The lower your reserves are, the more interest from bidders and the better your art works will sell. If you are represented in galleries or other sales outlets, you should of course not upset them by offering work too cheaply. We recommend a reserve price for the artelino auction that gives the buyer a discount at least 10% below your normal retail price. We call this the auction discount.

Since the artelino clients pay a buyer's commission of 20.00% on the hammered price we recommend a reserve formula of:

reserve = your retail price minus 20.00% commission minus 10% auction discount.

But remember that the more generous you make the auction discount the better you will sell. It often happens that the auction discount goes out the window when the bidding heats up.

Which prints should I select?

Please select 30 art prints that you consider as your best sellers. They may be representative or recent works or older works. But they should sell.

How shall I pack and ship?

Ship your prints best flat - between two strong plastic or very firm cardboards. Put the prints of same sizes in envelopes - plastic or paper - and tape the envelopes on all 4 corners or along the margins against a board. The secret of safe shipping is to prevent the prints from slipping inside the package during transport.

If you do not have the material and experience for safe shipping, please let us know. We can send you an empty set of our special packaging material. Please let us know the size of the largest print you intend to send to us. Thus we can send you a size that fits best.

Please do not hesitate to ask us for this free service. Nothing is more annoying than a shipment that arrives with creased margins and corners due to poor packaging.

How much is left for me?

What is your payment method?

We pay by wire transfer within a few days after auction end. Please submit your bank account details as specified on the general seller's page.

Are there any other costs/fees involved for me?

No - except for the costs of shipping your art work to us and the time and effort of your preparation work.

Who makes the descriptions and images?

We make the images by scanner or camera and enter the descriptions - using your description list. The more and better input you can give us to describe your individual art works, the better it is. Good and interesting descriptions sell better.

What kind of sales can I expect?

Hard to predict. The results could be from complete failure to 100% sold and 100% above reserves. The most honest way to answer this question is to list our first auctions and their results since we started our project of presenting contemporary printmakers (We list only the auctions until May 2006. Some artists who cooperate(d) with us do not want to be listed. Neither here on this page, nor with their sold art objects in the archive. No problem at all. We can set your consignment with a few mouse clicks to "invisible" (at least after the auction).
